The “Fly High Award” was established in 2007 in memory of our daughter, sister and friend, Katelyn Joy Derstine to maintain her legacy while recognizing and rewarding aspiring young females who possess similar traits as Katelyn. Since the inception of the Katelyn Joy Derstine Scholarship Fund, Inc. in 2007, we have awarded 16 high school students the “Fly High Award in Sarasota County with distributions of over $21,000 in scholarhips. The “Fly High Award” is a well-established and prestigious scholarship worth a minimum of $1,000 to a minimum of five candidates annually.
