The Katelyn Joy Derstine Scholarship Fund, Inc. along with the family of Katelyn Joy Derstine held its’ first “Fly High Awards” to the five recipients for 2007.

Four of the recipients received $1500 and the top winner, Jalaine Weller received $2500 in a financial scholarship. Each table was adorned with Gerbera daisies, Katelyn’s favorite flower which was then presented to each family for Mother’s Day. Coach planners, Katelyn’s part-time employment, were given to each of the recipients to help them with their collegiate planning. Additionally, a custom-designed, personalized trophy, etched with Katelyn’s signature butterfly drawing and quote was presented as a keepsake to each of this year’s award winners: Jalaine Weller, Sarah Rose Niewold, Elizabeth Schreiber, Melissa Brown and Christine Butler. A total of $8500 in scholarships was presented to the five deserving young ladies to assist with their future collegiate endeavors.
