Francesca TebanoI graduated from North Port High School with a 4.5 GPA. I enjoy being involved in my school and in my community. One of my major achievements was to place a direly-needed backpack program in North Port's Atwater Elementary School. This program provides 36 malnourished children with nonperishable food to be taken home weekends and over school holidays. I have also received the Anne Frank Humanitarian Award and the Sarasota County Do the Right Thing Award which was given to me for saving the life of a drowning child. |

Victoria ErbI volunteer at Doctors Hospital of Sarasota as a teenage volunteer. During this time, I work with two other teenagers at the front desk. We answer the phones, write passes for visitors, and help anyone who needs assistance. We also run errands for the nurses on the floors. These errands include transporting specimens, belongings, blood, and flowers to the designated places. Also during this time we discharge patients which is when we get the most interaction with the patients. I volunteer every Monday from 4:30-8PM. I currently have over one hundred hours and plan to continue volunteering until I go away to college. This has had a significant impact on me because I plan to pursue a career in the medical field. This is also an excellent way to interact with people. As a volunteer at the hospital it is my responsibility to admit and discharge patients. I have learned a lot about how to talk to people I do not know and help them. I have also met volunteers from other schools who I would otherwise never have the chance to know. It has been a great experience and I am so happy that I chose to volunteer at Doctors Hospital of Sarasota. |

Kylie SterlingI do the majority of my service work with the Lady Sailor Service Club- I have been in the club all four years of high school, was vice president and am now president. One of the requirements to be a member is to have 5 hours of community service a month, with opportunities provided by the club; being president, I must plan and participate in all the projects. My club participates in a variety of projects, such as Habitat for Humanity, where we rebuild homes for the unfortunate, volunteering at The Pines retirement home, Save Our Seabirds and Greyhound Rescue Projects, and the Relay for Life cancer walk. Relay for Life is our biggest project of the year, because it requires us to raise at least $2,500 as a group by April, and because I am Relay Captain and it is important to me. |

Kylie GourilukMy involvement in mission trips within the United States and to Mexico and the Ukraine has not only benefitted the people that were helped, but has also taught me a lot about my own life. In seventh grade, my class drove up to Atlanta, Georgia to spend a week in a homeless shelter. I was deeply impacted by the minimalistic way in which some people live, but I was also blessed by the way we were able to make a small difference in their lives by serving meals and sorting donated clothes. Our trip to Mexico was the highlight of my eighth grade year. My class spent ten days working in orphanages, constructing and painting homes, and performing skits and dramas. With my youth group, I was able to take a trip to Georgia to help clean up a local park and church. We also flew to the Ukraine to visit orphanages, clean and paint homes, and present skits and dramas. I was excited to be able to write, direct, and act in several of the dramas we performed there. Though each one of these places holds a special place in my heart, they all have taught me the significance of hard work and the value of my own possessions. |

Alyssa HunekThe most significant community activity in which I have participated is probably Community Theater. I have been performing in community theater productions for twelve years. From the very beginning, it has taught me time management skills. I have always had to earn excellent grades in school while being at the theater until as late as midnight when I was only in elementary school. Theater has also taught me the importance of diversity, and has allowed me to develop connections with hundreds of people. It has taught me how to communicate well with people of all age groups, from children to the elderly. Without theater, I also would probably not be singing at my Cathedral or at other community events. It is what led me to become a singer. Most importantly, being at the theater has taught me to dream big and never give up; I recently played Maria in “The Sound of Music” at Venice Theater, the third largest theater in the nation. Maria has always been my dream role. |
