The most significant volunteer activity that I have partaken in has been working as a camp counselor at The Salvation Army Summer camp for the past two summers. Working there has not just opened my eyes to the realities of some of these children's home lives but also to more information about me and the career path that I want to pursue. I love working with children and by working at this camp I was able to work closely with younger children and I learnt a lot about them along with their home lives and the reasons behind some of their behaviors. There were a few children that I had worked with that had been through terrible turbulent family problems and I found myself connecting with them in a way and helping them behave better and express their emotions in healthier more beneficial way. I was able to work both actively and creatively with the children and as we worked on projects and played throughout the summer, the impact that I felt was immense.I became very close with most of the children and at times I would act as a mentor trying to help them to not be so upset and angry all the time and helped teach them how to deal with problems differently. I also donated a lot of my personal items to the Salvation Army to help some of the kids out along with always making big deals of the children’s birthdays. Volunteering there taught me how we come form different backgrounds and some not always good, but how teaching a child right from wrong can impact their life positively and help them in the future. I started to realize how much helping others meant to me and how helping educating others was extremely important. This activity caused me to explore career choices I hadn’t before and helped me grow in ways I never thought I could. |

| Future Plans |
I was accepted to the college of my choice Florida State University and I am very excited to embark the next stage of my life there as I am very interested in studying abroad and joining programs associated to helping others around the world along with in my community. I hope to get a bachelors degree in international studies and possibly a teaching degree and by my third year of college I hope to join the peace corps and travel to other countries and help people truly in need. I was born in Zimbabwe Africa and lived there most of my life and this has impacted me to help others in third world countries especially children suffering from diseases and famine. I hope to set up non profit organizations that raises money and helps find homes for those who are orphaned due to famine or disease. I feel educating women and mothers is highly beneficial and by having my teaching degree more mothers will know about hygiene and homely care. I love to travel but I hope to return and have a big family and I plan to always dance and play sports on the side and in college. |
