| About Alyssa |
The most significant community activity in which I have participated is probably Community Theater. I have been performing in community theater productions for twelve years. From the very beginning, it has taught me time management skills. I have always had to earn excellent grades in school while being at the theater until as late as midnight when I was only in elementary school. Theater has also taught me the importance of diversity, and has allowed me to develop connections with hundreds of people. It has taught me how to communicate well with people of all age groups, from children to the elderly. Without theater, I also would probably not be singing at my Cathedral or at other community events. It is what led me to become a singer. Most importantly, being at the theater has taught me to dream big and never give up; I recently played Maria in “The Sound of Music” at Venice Theater, the third largest theater in the nation. Maria has always been my dream role. |
| Activities |
Mount Holyoke Book Award (11th grade): I received this award because my teachers recommended me for it. I was recognized above the other girls in the Junior class for outstanding academic and community achievements. First Place Teen Vocal Kawai National Star Search (10th grade): I was recognized nationally as an excellent vocalist after I made a recording of myself singing the song “Defying Gravity” from the Broadway Musical “Wicked.” I received first place in the national competition. First Place Documentary County History Fair (11th grade): Last year, I created a ten-minute long documentary on the Vietnam War and its effects on America. This had a special meaning to me because my uncle died in Vietnam. I interviewed four people for the documentary, including a local veteran, two local protestors, and my mother, who lost her brother in the war. I added music, film clippings, and sections of videos to the documentary. Cecillian Society Music Club Scholarships (9th-11th): Throughout the three years, I placed first and second in these local competitions. I had to sing two contrasting pieces each year. I received scholarships to attend music camps (including choral, theater, and worship leader camps) all three years. The judges chose me among many other talented young people in my age category. National Honor Society (council member, 12th grade) and other honors clubs: At Pine View School, I am a council member (the equivalent of an officer) of the National Honor Society. I meet with other council members to plan and organize events, and I also am a mentor to the juniors who are council members. I am very interested in community involvement, and that is what NHS is about (besides academic excellence). I am also a member of the Mu Alpha Theta honors math club (11-12), the French Honor Society(10-12), and the Tri-M honors music club(9-12). |

"The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside still waters....Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I fear no evil; for You are with me..." Psalm 23 |
| Future Plans |
Right now, I am planning on studying religious studies/theology in college with hopes of becoming a youth minister. I hope to achieve this goal by being able to afford and attend a prestigious university that will offer me an excellent education. Although my career plans could change, I know that one goal will not; I want to make a difference in the world. This is the most important goal to me. I want to reach out to others and touch their hearts, especially the hearts of young people. I also plan on continuing my vocal training, and my theater involvement |
